Cold Red Light Laser Therapy in London, Ontario
A calm, painless, non-invasive add-on to your massage. Beverly Peckham RMT, uses a handheld cold red light laser (low-level laser, or photobiomodulation) to help support soft-tissue recovery and ease discomfort, right where you need it. She also offers therapeutic ultrasound - a separate treatment described further down this page.
What is cold red light laser therapy?
Cold red light laser therapy - also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), cold laser or photobiomodulation - applies low-intensity red or near-infrared light to the body using a handheld device. Unlike a surgical laser, it doesn't heat or cut anything: the light is gentle and the treatment is painless. The leading idea behind how it works is that this light is absorbed by your cells' mitochondria, which may support cellular energy and tissue repair.
What cold red light laser therapy is used for
- Supporting soft-tissue recovery - sprains, strains, tendonitis and similar niggles
- Easing localized pain and inflammation as part of a treatment plan
- Supporting tissue and wound / scar healing
- Complementing hands-on massage - some practitioners use it to help loosen tissue before, or extend the benefits after, manual work
Cold red light laser therapy is a supportive, complementary tool. Research on it is still developing, so it may help ease discomfort and support recovery, but it isn't a cure for any medical condition - and we don't make claims about weight loss, hair growth or anything of that kind.
What to expect
You will first complete a health-history form so Beverly can determine whether the treatment is safe and appropriate for you. She will then speak with you about your concerns and treatment goals before beginning. The session itself is simple and relaxing: Beverly holds the handheld device over the area she's treating for a few minutes while you rest comfortably. There's no heat, no needles and nothing to recover from afterward. It's usually combined with your massage rather than booked on its own.
At a glance
- Type Handheld cold laser (low-level light)
- Paired with Hands-on massage
- Feels like Painless, no heat
- Often used for Soft-tissue recovery
Red light laser is included within a treatment session; ask Beverly when you book. All rates are plus HST and subject to change.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Beverly also offers therapeutic ultrasound. It appears on this page because the two services may be used toward some similar treatment goals - but therapeutic ultrasound and red light laser therapy are separate treatments: one uses sound waves, the other uses light.
What is therapeutic ultrasound?
Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves, applied through a handheld device and conductive gel, to reach the soft tissue beneath the skin. The treatment is quiet and comfortable - most people feel only the gentle glide of the applicator and the coolness of the gel.
What it may be used for
- Helping decrease inflammation
- Supporting tissue healing
- Helping relieve pain
- Helping reduce muscle spasms
- Supporting the recovery of certain soft-tissue injuries
- Addressing some muscle, tendon and ligament concerns
Like the other supportive therapies here, therapeutic ultrasound is used as part of a broader treatment plan. It may help with the concerns above, but results vary from person to person and it isn't a cure for any medical condition.
What to expect
Beverly will review your health history, symptoms and treatment goals before determining whether therapeutic ultrasound is appropriate for you. When it fits, it's woven into your session alongside her hands-on work.
Is therapeutic ultrasound right for me?
Therapeutic ultrasound isn't suitable for everyone - it isn't used over or near certain sensitive areas of the body, and some medical conditions mean it should be adapted or avoided. Beverly screens for these when she reviews your health history, so please share your full health picture when you book. If ultrasound isn't a good fit for you, she'll recommend an alternative that is.
Ultrasound treatment may not be appropriate for clients with pacemakers, implanted defibrillators or certain other implants. It is also not used over damaged or irritated skin, including areas affected by eczema, or over areas that have received radiation treatment within the past six months. Please discuss your health history with your massage therapist before treatment.
