Pediatric massage

Pediatric Massage in London, Ontario

Pediatric massage - also known as children's massage - is gentle, supportive registered massage for children and youth, helping ease the repetitive strain of sports and music, calm anxiety, and teach the importance of self-care at a young age. Booked one-on-one with Beverly Peckham RMT or one of her experienced associates, at the Covent Garden Market, always with a parent or guardian present.

Children and youth carry more physical stress than we often realise. Young bodies that repeat the same movements - a pitcher's arm, a dancer's hips, hours at a piano, violin or a video-game controller - build up the same muscular tension and imbalances adults do. Add the pressures of school and growing up, and a little calm, hands-on care can go a long way.

As a parent herself, Beverly understands this first-hand. She keeps sessions with children gentle, friendly and age-appropriate, and takes the time to explain what she's doing so a child feels comfortable and in control the whole way through.

How massage can help children

  • Eases repetitive strain from sports - the overworked muscles of young athletes in hockey, soccer, gymnastics, dance, swimming and more
  • Eases repetitive strain from music - the neck, shoulders, arms and hands of budding musicians who practise for hours
  • Helps calm anxiety and stress - a quiet, soothing reset for busy, growing minds
  • Supports better sleep and relaxation
  • Relieves general aches and growing-body tension

Teaching self-care that lasts a lifetime

One of the best reasons to introduce a child to massage is what it teaches them. Learning early that it's healthy to listen to your body, manage stress and take care of yourself is a coping skill that pays off for life. Massage models self-care in the most practical way - and children who grow up understanding it tend to carry that healthy habit into adulthood.

What a children's session looks like

Sessions are shorter than an adult appointment and set entirely by the child's comfort. A parent or guardian remains in the room when the child is 12 years of age or younger. Children usually stay comfortably clothed for over-the-clothing work, and Beverly checks in constantly, easing off the moment anything doesn't feel right. Nothing is ever rushed or forced - the goal is for your child to leave feeling relaxed, listened to and looked after.

A note for parents. A parent or guardian must attend and provide consent for any child's appointment. Please mention your child's age, activities and any health concerns when you book so Beverly can tailor the session - and check with your child's doctor first if they have a medical condition.
Coverage through your benefits. Children may have massage therapy coverage through a parent's extended healthcare benefits - it's worth checking your plan. A Registered Massage Therapist receipt is provided for every appointment so you can submit the claim.
