Concussion recovery
Concussion Recovery Massage
Calm, gentle, patient massage therapy in downtown London, Ontario to support your recovery from a concussion – in a quiet room with adjustable, dim lighting. It’s one of the focused areas that sets Beverly Peckham RMT, apart, working alongside the medical care you’re already receiving.
A concussion can leave the body carrying tension long after the initial event – tight neck and shoulders, nagging headaches, and disrupted sleep. This is focused recovery massage: slow, careful, and always adjusted to what your body can tolerate on the day. The goal is simply to help you feel calmer and more comfortable while you heal, not to rush anything.
Beverly has been a Registered Massage Therapist in London since 1996, and concussion recovery is one of the differentiated focus areas of her practice – one she understands personally, having navigated her own concussion recovery. Every session is one-on-one, so she learns how your symptoms behave over time and adjusts each treatment accordingly.
What this focused recovery massage involves
Sessions are deliberately gentle and unhurried. Beverly works within your comfort, using light, patient techniques on the neck, shoulders, upper back and surrounding muscles rather than deep, aggressive pressure. She checks in with you throughout, and pressure or focus is dialled back the moment anything feels like too much. Nothing about the session is designed to provoke symptoms – the pace is set by how you feel.
How gentle massage may help during recovery
While your recovery is guided by your medical team, focused massage may help ease some of the everyday muscle tension and discomfort that often lingers after a concussion, including:
- Tension headaches – easing the tight neck and scalp muscles that can contribute to headache discomfort.
- Neck & upper-back tightness – gently relieving the stiffness and guarding that so often follows a head injury.
- Jaw & shoulder tension – releasing clenching and bracing patterns that build up around the jaw, shoulders and collarbone.
- Stress & poor sleep during recovery – supporting relaxation and calm, which many people find helps them rest more easily while they heal.
Massage supports how you feel through recovery – it helps ease tension and may relieve everyday discomfort, but it does not treat, cure, or heal a concussion itself.
What to expect
Your first visit starts with gathering information about your health history, current injury, symptoms and what your care team has advised. From there, expect a slow, communicative treatment kept firmly within your comfort. You stay in control the whole time – you can ask Beverly to lighten the pressure, change position, pause, or stop at any point. If you feel dizzy, nauseous or overwhelmed, we simply ease off. Receipts are provided for extended-health insurance claims.
